A little Journey..
I’ve always been in awe of nature and I firmly belief that all of what we need to heal lies right here in the natural world, if we only took the time to learn. My dabbling in natural therapies began over a decade ago and I guess it’s been an ongoing process of natural evolution… or an organic process (pun intended!)
Going down the conventional path was never really going to be on the cards for me – because actually… I’ve never really had a conventional life! From England to South Africa back to England to the Middle East to Australia, the Carribean, America and beyond… Now these feet are firmly back on English soil! Constant moving and travelling hasn’t always been an easy lifestyle, but it has been an incredible gift and a privilege to have experienced so many diverse cultures, traditions, landscapes, people, plants, foods and other natural wonders of our world. This I would like to be able to share with my clients and readers.
However, I also want to stress that you needn’t go to the far corners of this earth to find magic, for treasures lie in your very own backyards and even in the kitchen… Start with focusing on what is growing naturally in your location. BTW yes I do believe that plants, fungi and such can save the world! And so we in turn should respect and protect them… and generally be more nurturing to this planet we are lucky enough to call home 🙂
Pineapple Sage and the Hummingbird
I always get asked these questions… What was my inspiration and what is the deal with Hummingbirds and ‘Pineapple Sage’? So here is a bit of a hippy tale… but a true one! A moment in time which became the inspiration and springboard for this website.
You see, a few years back, during a particularly difficult period in my life, I had a chance encounter with a hummingbird. At the time I was a solo traveller in Asia, en-route back to England after spending the last 6 years living in Australia. My life in a backpack. It was one of those times when everything seemed to implode at once: home-relationship-finances-health. So, my health was at an all time low – both physical and emotional.
Then one particular morning… there I was sat on the balcony & feeling particularly sorry for myself, when this vibrant little hummingbird appeared. It hovered for a few seconds in front of me, then continued along it’s day, zipping around gathering nectar from the surrounding Pineapple Sage plants. I was captivated – in awe. In that moment it all seemed OK because it was a reminder that despite all of life’s struggles, this world is nothing short of wonderful. A real pivotal moment. Ironic really how it took such a tiny creature to put me in my place and give me a much needed dose of hope and perspective!
Fast forward a few months later & post-move to the UK and my experience with the hummingbird stayed with me. After looking into the legends & folklore, I found that they feature widely in ancient Native American and Asian mythology. Strangely enough, the running theme seemed to be along the lines of:
The Hummingbird: A sacred symbol of healing, spirituality, vitality and regeneration.
It all seemed so fitting…. So there you have it, I have her (or him!) to thank for this website. ‘Pineapple Sage’ and my logo is a tribute to that little hummingbird and a symbol of HOPE and THE HEALING POWER OF NATURE. I guess the moral of this story is that reconnecting with nature is a great healer in itself and whilst I wouldn’t say I’m religious, nature is my absolute religion! I feel humbled and incredibly fortunate to do what I do.
These days life is thankfully much calmer and after exploring a big chunk of England, I’ve landed in beautiful, wild Cornwall – a coastal haven where I think I might just stay still for a while. Who knows, maybe even put down roots finally! 1 thing is for sure: I shall continue to be a lifelong student in the grand school of Mother Nature, collecting and sharing gems of natural wisdom along the way. For those of you that live locally, I am able to provide personal health consultations. But if nothing else, I hope you take away something of value from this site/blog and that it plants some seeds of inspiration…
